Call for Symposium Proposals

(This call will close on January 15, 2026)

Biofabrication 2026 and the International Society for Biofabrication (ISBF) invite the global research community to propose scientific symposia that will shape the scientific core of the conference. Proposals are welcomed in all areas of biofabrication. We seek symposia that highlight innovation, interdisciplinarity, and translation—spanning from fundamental biomaterials science and engineering methods to clinical and industrial applications, among others.

If you are interested in submitting a symposium proposal, please complete the Symposium proposal form (below)  by January 31, 2026.

TERMS for SYMPOSIUM APPLICATION

General information

Each symposium will typically run for 120 minutes and may include either (a) two 30-minute keynote presentations and four 12-minute talks, or (b) one 30-minute keynote and six 12-minute talks. Each talk will be followed by a brief discussion. Keynote speakers must be proposed within this form; additional oral presentations will be selected from submitted abstracts.

Each symposium must have a main applicant and a co-applicant. The proponents are expected to participate as Chairs (Chair and co-Chair) and actively act as promoters of applications for the Symposia they are proposing. It is recommended that the Chair and Co-Chair do not serve as Keynote Speakers. An additional Early Career Co-Chair will be nominated by the ISBF Early Career Researchers Committee to promote mentorship and generational diversity.

We strongly encourage symposium organizers to include a mix of academic, clinical, and industrial perspectives whenever relevant. Please also consider diversity in terms of gender, nationality, and career stage when proposing speakers.

Evaluation of the Symposium Proposal

Proposals will be evaluated on (i) relevance to the conference themes, (ii) novelty, scientific impact, and educational value, (iii) potential translational or industrial significance, and (iv) diversity and inclusion across gender, geography, and career stage. Interdisciplinary or cross-track symposia are strongly encouraged.

Once a symposium is accepted, the applicant(s) will be notified by email by or around January 30th, 2026. The Scientific Committee of Biofabrication 2026 will reserve the right of merging similar symposium proposals or cancel a symposium if sufficient abstracts are not received. The symposium chairs and their respective keynote speakers must register to Biofabrication 2026 and commit to chairing/speaking at the symposia no later than August 2nd, 2026.

Financial Support for Symposia

Biofabrication 2026 unfortunately cannot provide direct financial support for symposium organizers or speakers. Symposium organizers and keynote speaker(s) should agree in advance on who will cover these expenses. Symposium organizers are encouraged to seek sponsors to support the registration and/or travel costs of the speakers and organizers. Sponsors will have the opportunity to promote their company through advertising materials as part of the symposium. It is recommended not to reach out to potential sponsors until the symposium proposal has been officially accepted.

To submit, please use the Symposium Proposal Form (below) for Biofabrication 2026.
